H4 Receptor Project

H4-Receptor Project

The » Histamine H4 receptor is an emerging target for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. This GPCR was discovered in 2000 and plays a role in inflammatory chemotaxis. It therefore has potential as a drug target in a number of diseases with a chronic inflammatory component, such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, ulcerative colitis, some types of pruritis and possibly rheumatoid arthritis.

Cellzome has developed a series of antagonists targeting the Histamine H4 receptor. The lead molecule binds to the human H4 receptor with high affinity and is highly selective over the other histamine receptors. The company plans to test the molecule initially in » allergic rhinitis in order to obtain human efficacy data as early in development as possible. In parallel, Cellzome is investigating the role of the receptor, and the therapeutic potential of its lead molecule, in other inflammatory diseases.
